A SCORM video package is a course, not a renamed MP4
A SCORM video package combines a video lesson with the structure and player communication needed by a learning management system. The exported course has a manifest, learner-facing content and an LMS runtime. Putting an MP4 in a ZIP does not supply those pieces.
Martius prepares the reviewed lesson as a local course delivery. Choose the target SCORM profile, set the learning rules, export the package and import that copy into the intended LMS. The video, course revision and delivery record stay connected.
Choose the target LMS and the correct SCORM profile
Confirm which SCORM version the LMS accepts and which profile your organization uses. Select SCORM 1.2 or the appropriate SCORM 2004 edition in the delivery configuration. The versions use different runtime and status models; do not treat “SCORM supported” as permission to choose either without checking.
Write down the LMS, its course settings, the standard version or edition, and the package constraints provided by the LMS administrator. Use the selected profile for the whole delivery instead of mixing package metadata from one version with runtime behavior from another.
Define what completion means for this lesson
A learner reaching the end of a video, watching an agreed proportion and passing a check are different outcomes. Choose a rule that fits the learning objective. Explain it in the player and use the same meaning in the LMS report.
For a short concept lesson, completion may be based on reviewing the required content. For a procedure orientation, the organization may require a separate assessment or supervised practice. Viewing a film does not itself establish competence or permission to perform a high-risk task.
- Learning objective and content owner
- Required content and completion rule
- Optional assessment and passing rule
- Resume behavior after closing and reopening
- Content revision and course identifier
Assemble the lesson before packaging
Review the video, narration, captions, transcript and any interaction against the approved source. Make the learner controls understandable and check keyboard access. Choose language, cover and learner-facing title from the same content revision.
A medical, scientific or industrial lesson needs a knowledgeable owner to inspect what the simplification implies. Use the course to present the reviewed explanation or orientation; do not let a standards package claim professional certification, clinical validity or safety approval.
Export and inspect the course bundle
In Martius, select the approved project revision and SCORM delivery profile. Configure completion, resume and any assessment options, choose the local destination, then export. Inspect the resulting package and delivery record before uploading it to the LMS.
The package needs a root imsmanifest.xml and the referenced content required to launch the lesson. Keep its internal paths intact. Renaming a delivery ZIP is different from moving files inside it; a missing resource can prevent a course from starting even when the video itself plays.
Test import, launch, resume and reporting in the LMS
Use a test course and test learner in the actual destination. Import the package, launch it from the learner interface and confirm that video, captions and controls work. Close it partway through, launch it again and check the expected resume behavior.
Complete the lesson according to the chosen rule and inspect the LMS report. If an assessment is present, test both a pass and a fail. Save the observed course version, settings and results with the delivery. A preview player is useful for content review, but it cannot establish how the intended LMS records learning.
Publish a new revision deliberately
When the source lesson changes, return to the project, review the affected video and course rules, and export a new delivery. Decide with the LMS owner whether to replace content, create a new course version or enroll learners again.
Keep earlier learning records attributable to the version that produced them. Do not silently carry a learner’s completed state into a materially different procedure. Original materials and projects remain local; only the selected course copy and destination metadata leave after approval.
Questions about this workflow
Can I turn a video into SCORM by zipping the MP4?
No. A SCORM course also needs package structure, learner-facing content and runtime communication with the LMS. Martius exports a configured lesson package rather than treating an MP4 as a course by itself.
Should I choose SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004?
Choose the version and, for SCORM 2004, the edition accepted by the target LMS and required by your learning profile. Test launch, resume, completion and any assessment in that destination.
Does watching the whole video mean the learner passed?
Completion and passing are different decisions. Define whether the lesson only records content completion or also includes an assessment and passing rule.
Will one SCORM package work in every LMS?
Use a compatible profile and validate the package in the actual LMS. Course settings, player behavior and reporting differ; a standard label alone does not prove compatibility with every destination.
